Z-Table Extraction Frameworks for SAP-to-D365 Migrations
SAP Z-tables are one of the most significant technical challenges in any SAP-to-D365 migration. Unlike standard SAP tables, Z-tables represent custom data structures created by previous implementation teams — often poorly documented, sometimes business-critical, and frequently misunderstood by the migration team.
Our Z-table extraction framework addresses this challenge systematically, ensuring that no business-critical custom data is lost during migration and that the D365 target environment is designed to accommodate it correctly.
The Framework: Four Phases
- Discovery: Automated scanning of the SAP system to identify all Z-tables, their relationships, and their usage frequency
- Classification: Categorisation by business criticality, data volume, and D365 migration path
- Mapping: Design of target data structures in D365, including custom entities where required
- Extraction and Validation: Data extraction, transformation, loading, and reconciliation against source counts
